Success Story
Nancy Marshall-Hinojosa was born and raised in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia and began riding at the age of 3. She was a member of the Annapolis Pony Club from ages 6 through 21 and represented Canada at the Australian Bicentennial Pony Club Championships in 1988. She showed, evented and was whipper-in for the Annapolis Valley Hunt for several years before attending both Mount Allison University and Saint Mary’s University for her BComm and MBA degrees, respectively. Her career in banking took her to Toronto and eventually, New York, where she worked as an investment banker for JPMorgan. Subsequent to the births of twin daughters and then a son 2 years later, Nancy and her husband, Victor, made a family decision to return to Canada. Now residing on the farm adjacent to the apple farm she grew up on, Nancy is still very active in the Maritime equestrian world. Both her daughters, now age 10, ride with the Annapolis Pony Club and Nancy has resumed competing in the show-jumping arena. She has two horses competing at the 1.2/1.3m level; Allister is a 17 year old quarter horse thoroughbred who was last year’s Maritime Green Diamond champion and Field Marshall is a 12 year old Hanoverian gelding that was born on Nancy’s parents’ farm.
Nancy is looking forward to returning to Gingerwood this year with two entries for the BMO Grand Prix. “It’s wonderful to be able to ride at such a premier facility as Gingerwood. And it’s even more exciting to compete in front of my BMO colleagues,” says Nancy. In addition to raising three children and competing two show jumpers, Nancy also works full-time as a Private Wealth Consultant for BMO Harris Private Banking, the private banking arm of BMO Financial Group.
“My daughters and I are looking forward to competing at Gingerwood this year. We’d like to thank the entire Murphy family, volunteers, BMO and all the sponsors who make this such a great event in support of such a great charity, the Oak Acres Children’s Camp.”
